The mafia attack of two months ago against Miguel Uribe Turbay, who after weeks of fighting for his life just died, is proof of the impossible continuity of a Far West Status Quo in the daily Colombian life.
At this point people don’t know if it was the Guerrilla, the Drug Cartels, or another political rival who canceled the chances of Miguel to be president of Colombia. His mother was kidnapped for months when he was just four years old, and was release only after being shot without hope of survival. She was a journalist, her name was Diana Turbay, daughter of the former president Julio Cesar Turbay, who was in charge at the beginning of the drug dealer “carrier” of Pablo Escobar.
Gustavo Petro, president in charge of Colombia, menaced to legally sue any person who tries to relate him with the criminal attack against Miguel Uribe. Petro was a former Guerrillero or Terrorist, depending how free you can talk about this social Colombian caos. Pedro Escobar, with the obsession to not be arrested and sent to be prosecuted in the USA, ordered to put a bomb on the airplane of Avianca, where Cesar Gaviria, candidate for the presidency of Colombia was supposed to be travelling.
Gaviria was not on the airplane, but Escobars bomb killed 107 people in the explosion of the airplane and another 3 people died on land from the consequence of the aircraft debris. This was Colombia and is Colombia now.
It’s clear that there are many groups of power who are in conflict with businesses that menace the interests of each other.
In other countries like the USA, decades ago; the Italian, Jewish and Irish mafia decided to be Americans and created a nation. Looks like Colombia is still not ready yet for this necessary step of civilisation.
