The first Puritans who arrived to Plymouth, Massachusetts created a free life where work, family and values needed to be defended at any cost, like their faith for G-D.
In England they were prosecuted as revolutionary and far from the British Empires vision of society and community. In England, the fact that a miserable worker, almost a slave in fact but not legally, and had a direct rapport with the creator without needing filters from higher power, and specifically to accept that every person can have a personal rapport with the almighty will put any queen or king in question.
They went to America, and created the principle moral structure for the young democracy and actually they created the first democratic nation in the world. Making every American theoretically a pure expression of freedom.
Hundreds of years later, a society that doesn’t follow logically or consciously any rule, just a social implicit understanding of how good or bad something is taken or how the people will think of you in any case afterward, its how they continue to follow the democratic rules created by this strong and determined colonists: The Puritans. Today it seems that they go back to the starting point to recreate their faith and request for a second chance to the creator. They choose the citizen with a capacity to deny in public not just that the night is dark and the morning clear, but after his multiple crimes, offences, and desertion for any law or rule that in his opinion attacks him, and not his legal public offences. This citizen makes himself president, to clearly have a redemption of his sins, and it will be G-D again to decide if he forgives them all. It doesn’t matter if there are many citizens that are good patriots, good parents and sons or daughters, but looks like a price that all the country unconsciously wants to pay to go back to the must Puritan philosophy of living or maybe just to have the moral excuse.
