The maestro Montanelli was clear to point the guilt of the Catholic Church in their role to keep people as obedient as possible of the Italian underdevelopment with high quotes of Illiterate citizens after the greatest times of the Renaissance, that put Italy again in the main world scene after the greatest of the Roman times. Only the priests knew how to read or write, knowing all the personal affairs of the ignorant people. Montanelli told how different from the Germanic and Anglosassone countries where the Religious Reformation consisted in letting the citizens learn how to read and to write enabling them to have a simple and authentic ownership of their privacy and life. There was clearly a strong input of the persecuted Puritans, that arriving to the future USA, created and sealed the base of the American nation with faith, work and freedom.

But nowadays, the citizens of all Occidental countries just need to touch the screen of their phone and request any kind of information, updates about politics, economics, sports, etc, in seconds the Menu is served with the point of view of who owns or rents the software to make assimilated the most convenient prospective, the purchase tendency or even the best behaviour to confront the day, and the possible conversations to interact with colleagues, friends or family members. Too much of nothing, the individual freedom to research and create your opinion is again in the hands of our bosses. Confronting this scenario, what would Indro Montanelli think? What lecture of our present and possible desperate future will he see for all of us?
