Peru: In Between Normality and Insanity

That, the actual President of the country has one meeting hiding his face with a hoodie when he visited a Chinese friend at night inside a Chinese restaurant; this friend who has many contracts with the state, and even more public lawsuits because after receiving the funds he or his companies never started or finished the projects they were supposed to perform or make. In Peru this is normal, since criminality is infiltrated in each segment of the society, including the president of the country. After some days of having his Chinese dinner meeting, the president arrived to a store, that was just shut down that same day, wearing sunglasses inside the building and talking with the Chinese man who was complaining for the closing of his shop by the City of Lima control operators. The president proceeded by insulting somebody at the phone and a miracle happened: The store was allowed to reopen to the public hours later. This Chinese business owner was convicted for financial crimes and is supposed to be under house arrest for the next two years. One of his companies just got a public contract to build a Hidroelectric facility in the poor Department of Apurimac, where 6% of the population suffers extreme poverty. When the video of the meeting went public, the president justified his presence saying: I went to buy Chinese Caramels! Very normal, for a Peruvian politician in front of evidence, to play the Trump card of “La Criollada”.

What is insane is that in 2017, two people were killed in a building fire in the center of Lima without any option to escape since they were locked in a container during their “Work Shift” of 12 hours, everyday, with a payment of 7.50 usd a day. Their job was to print false Phillips labels on Chinese illumination products.

This makes Peru Insane!
