Nicolas Sarkozy former president of France (2007-2012) was condemned to five years of prison to have accepted money and funds for his presidential campaign from the Libyan dictator Muhammad Gheddafi(1977-2011).
Sarkozy, who was supposed to change not just the French country political direction into a more European and effective strategy while keeping the name of France like a world leader of democracy and development, failed. Me personally, I wished for a great government by Sarkozy to make a kind of balance of the strong and almost solitary and exclusive German power of Angela Merkel over the European Union. Sarkozy needed to be the leader that helped to create an authentic European Diplomatic policy to not just follow directions and orders from Washington DC.
Unfortunately, for lack of capacities or for internal and international animosities, he failed.
What is clear, is that before he finished his presidency he was able to take the Libyan regime of Gheddafi to an end. French combat airplanes let the Great Man-Made River Project (GMMR) without function; one of the most ambitious and important projects to take deep fossil water from the Sahara and transport it around the country without any cost to their citizens. But as well, it looks like Sarkozy tried to silence his campaign supporter and he succeeded. Gheddafi was found, thanks to the French and American localisation technology after escaping from Tripoli, where there was in act a revolution against his dictatorship; Gheddafi who was trying to put together troops in his beautiful and historical city of Sirte. He was given to his enemies on the streets and liquidated.
